Ethiope East: Majemite Directs Security Operatives, Vigilante To Enforce Strict Compliance To Ban On Public Gathering

In line with the Delta State Government’s ban on public gatherings, the Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area, Chief Faith Majemite, has directed security operatives in the locality, alongside vigilante members to enforce strict compliance to this directive.
In a press statement made available to Oasis Magazine, the council boss added that to secure the area from the plague of the current global pandemic, COVID-19, she has directed the closure of public and private schools as well as all public gathering and events across the Local Government Area until further notice from March 27th, 2020, as part of efforts to check the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.
Majemite promised to continue to monitor and review developments on an hourly basis.
She said: “Though there has not been any case of the virus in Delta State, we deem it fit to take further measures to avert any outbreak or contain its spread if it occurs within our limited capacity.
“Consequently, after serious deliberations with medical personnel, we have
decided to reel out some of the following guidelines, with specific orders to the Vigilante and the security agencies to enforce strict compliance.
According to her, all forms of social gathering, i.e. burial, marriages, etc, are banned indefinitely.
The council boss also suspended all forms of community conferences and town hall meetings forthwith, as she directed all supermarkets, hotels and business outlets to display hand washing spots and sanitizers at entry points and to ensure that customers obey social distance protocol.
She tasked community leaders on partnership with leadership of various markets in providing hand washing spots and sanitizers in strategic places within the markets.
Meanwhile, she said that all forms of religious crusades and revivals that attract more than twenty (20) persons are to stop forthwith and added that all forms of political meetings and gatherings b out on hold forthwith.
Majemite also ordered all night clubs/lounges and cinemas to close forthwith, saying that all burials and social events must be low-key and not attract a crowd of more than twenty persons.
Furthermore, the Chairman banned all town union gatherings or youth conferences/gatherings until further notice.
In her statement, all political gatherings, conferences and summits with more than 20 persons were also banned until further notice.
She noted that “the essence of the measures is a proactive step by the government in the right direction,” saying that “though, it may elicit a lot of inconveniences to all, it will surely guide against the spread of the dreaded virus.”
The press statement also read: “We sincerely urge you to treat the situation as an emergency one, as we pray that in the end when the Covid-19 plague ends, Ethiope East will rejoice that none of its indigene was consumed by the inferno.
She urged all Ethiope East indigenes not to panic, as she called on them to commit to best behaviours by keeping to the advice of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and State Officials.
She continued: “Please, do not spread false information on social media, as it will do us no good.”
