COVID-19: Putting On Facemasks When In Public Is Now Mandatory, Okowa Tells Deltans
By Daniel Dafe
Deltans have been asked to put on facemasks when in public places.
The Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, on Tuesday during a state broadcast to residents on the fight against COVID-19, said that “henceforth, it is mandatory for all residents in the State to make use of facemasks in the public.
He said: “Anybody leaving his/her home must wear a facemask effective Thursday, 30th April 2020 till further notice.”
Furthermore, he clarified that they must be worn in public places including offices, markets, malls, supermarkets, salons, hospitals and health clinics, churches, mosques, as well as all approved gatherings of persons.
“Traders/market women are all required to wear facemasks while carrying out their businesses,” he said.
He disclosed that the State Government will by tomorrow commence, in the first instance, the distribution of a million cloth facemasks to Deltans, using the Local Government offices as channels.
He urged those who can afford facemasks to make their own procurement.
