School Resumption: Students Suspend Planned Shutdown Of Airports Nationwide, As FG Postpones Resumption Of International Flights

Students under the aegis of National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), have shifted the planned move to barricade all international airports nationwide and ground flights over the continued closure of tertiary institutions in the country, saying that other sectors have resumed therefore schools should not be left out of the arrangement.

Recall that this medium recently published a report that the leadership of NAPS directed students to converge in front of all airports by 7a.m. today and asked them to come along with cooking pots/gas and students mats.

Delta Students were also determined to shut down Asaba Airport.

The students were asked to be prepared to occupy the airports until the Federal Government directs tertiary institutions to resume.

But in a press statement signed by H.E Gen. DIO, Oghale Emeka Rex, President of the Senate and Comrade Inedi Bright,
Senate Clerk, made available to Oasis Magazine (OM), titled: RE: NOTIFICATION FOR PROTEST; PARTIAL POSTPONEMENT, the student body said that “there was a partial postponement of the proposed peaceful demonstration at all international airports nationwide that was scheduled for 29th of August 2020.”

According to the statement, “the reason for this postponement is as a result of the postponement of the international flights that is supposed to commence on the 29th of August 2020 and also to give the government a benefit of doubts if they are looking into our demands.”

The statement added: “Subsequently, the leadership will keep all and sundry posted and abreast as we shall also reconvey the letter of protest in no distance time if need be or failure for the government to give us a resumption date on or before 5th of September 2020.

“While we anticipate a positive outcome, we deeply regret whatever inconveniences this might have caused you, do accept our warmest regards.”
