EndSARS: North Is Cool, South Is Hot, Use Your Brains, Majemite Tells Eku Indigenes After Attempts To Burn Bank, Police Station

Chairman, Ethiope East Local Government Area in Delta State, Chief Faith Majemite has frowned at attempts to burn the only bank in Eku, Amju Unique Microfinance Bank, Eku and the police station by EndSARS protesters in the community.

Majemite, who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a telephone chat, noted that the north has been calm since the protests started, adding that the south has witnessed one destruction to another of important assets and investments, as she urged Eku indigenes and other southerners to use their brains and be wise.

Her words: “Some people are saying we need SARS. Of course they did not go through what we went through here.

“Our people in the south should be careful. You people reporting also should report in a way that we will have a great tomorrow.

“Look at Libya today; when Gaddafi was there, people were shouting but it was better off than now. It is not good, it is not good, at the end again, our community remains our community.

“Thats why I praise Eku leaders for not listening to those that were determined to burn the bank and police station in Eku.”

Though she did not give answers to what led to the rage, Oasis Magazine (OM) gathered that some youths had a scuffle with the mobile policemen attached to the owner of Amju Microfinance Bank. Thus were told led to the shooting of some youths that left some injured and presently receiving treatments in an.undisclosed hospital.

Majemite however said the situation is under control and that the place is very calm now.

She added: “The community leaders have taken charge.”

She continued: “It’s not fair. How would people decide to go and burn the police station and bank when we are looking for more people to invest in our community?

“Well, what has happened has happened and everyone has learnt their lessons. The place is calm now. There is no problem. The community leaders have taking charge.”

Still on the EndSARS protests, she said: “See, the way we are carrying out this riot is not right. We shouldn’t destroy our property. Look at the north what have they destroyed? Nothing! Can’t we just talk with our mouths and desist from destroying things? If we destroy the police station, destroy banks, everything, tomorrow where do we go to. We will leave Abraka to go to Warri to go and bank or we go to Asaba. We must protect our structures.”

“We are trying to encourage more banks to come to the community so people will not be traveling far to do bank transactions.

“The president spoke yesterday and you listened to him. So, this one we are doing in the south we are not helping ourselves. We are killing ourselves because we have to start all over again.”
