Gov Okowa Scores Delta Police Command High

Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has scored officers and men of the Delta State Police Command high in terms of crime prevention and fighting which had further enhanced peace and security, SpadeNG reports.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa gave the commendation yesterday while speaking at the Police Officers Mess at Okwe,Asaba during the visit of the Assistant Inspector General of Police,Zone Five,Mr Shola David.

The Governor represented by the State Deputy Governor,Deacon Kingsley Otuaro commended the performance of the police in the state in the protection of lives and property .

He said the police had effectively discharged its constitutional duties in the state by ensuring that Delta was safe for businesses to thrive while checkmating criminal activities with several breakthrough to its credit.

Governor Okowa noted that his administration had constituted several peace and conflict resolution and security bodies such as the Delta State Water Ways Security,Delta State Elders Advisory Council and the Delta State Advocacy Against Oil Installations Vandalism and Theft among others to support the police and other security agencies in ensuring that peace reigned supreme in the state.

He said the state government was not unaware of the fact that the achievements of the policies and programmes of government was hinged on peace and security which the police played a prominent role.

The Governor while commending the Commissioner of Police,Mr Hafiz Inuwa Mohammed and his officers and men for their efforts in ensuring a secured state noted that the high level of recoveries of arms and ammunitions from criminals had further made the state safer.

Governor Okowa also commended the Police for its proactive steps in ensuring ethnic harmony by stepping up security in the event of any inter ethnic clash stressing that the role the police played also helped in deescalating the Aladja and Ogbe Ijoh crisis.

On the EndSARS protest, Governor Okowa said the state recorded minimal destruction of lives and property due to the efforts the police and other security agencies and urged the police to step up efforts as criminal activities seem to be on the increase during festive seasons.

The Assistant Inspector General of Police,Zone Five, Mr Shola David said his visit was to interact with officers and men of the Delta State Police Command for the professional role they played during the endsars protest and also to boost their moral as well as review strategies for better results.

He stressed the need for better community police relations, stressing that the issues that led to the EndSARS protest was being addressed by government emphasising that the police would not tolerate such protest anymore.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Hafiz Inuwa Mohammed said the police would not fail in performing its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property assuring that efforts were being strengthened to enhance a crime free state .

He reeled out the achievements the Command under his watch including the recoveries of several arms and ammunition as well as banned drugs worth millions of naira and commended the state government for its support to the police.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Inspector General of Police certificate of commendation to twelve officers of the Command by the Deputy Governor,Deacon Kingsley Otuaro.
