The lecturer was accused with criminal conspiracy, burglary, kidnapping, voluntarily causing great bodily injury without provocation, and assault.
His children, Bob-Praise, and Saint-Dan were added to the lawsuit as the second, third, and fourth defendants.
AU Idris, the defendants’ attorney, addressed the court with an offer for a plea bargain despite the fact that the defendants had entered a not guilty plea during the prosecution.
In his ruling on Thursday, Solomon Ayenajeh, the presiding judge of the Nasarawa State High Court, found the first defendant guilty and sentenced him to six months in prison for criminal conspiracy and an additional six months for assault. The charges are to run concurrently.
The judge added that the six months that Ayokhai spent in the Nigeria Correctional Service’s (NCoS) custody will be counted.
In his decision about the children’s offense, the judge stated that given their age, they would be placed on probation for six months.
The judge said they will be punished with keeping the premises of the Nasarawa State High Court clean during their sentence. Ayenajeh also directed the third defendant, Bob-Praise, to shave his dreadlocks.
In his speech, Ayokhai thanked the judge and parties in the matter for the consideration and the leniency accorded him.
He added that he has taken steps to recompense the victim as part of the plea bargain arrangement.
