DELSU Holds Interactive Session With Fresh Students

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, on Thursday continued the orientation exercise for fresh students for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.

The second day of the orientation exercise for the newly admitted students
was an engaging and insightful experience.

The event took place simultaneously at the university’s Convocation Hall, Faculty of Social Science lecture hall and the Faculty of Management Sciences new hall.

The exercise featured an interactive session between the freshers, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Professor Ignatius Njoseh, and other key university officials.

During one of the sessions, the Director, DELSU Counseling Center, Rev. Fr. Prof. Jude Obuinu, encouraged the students to feel free to visit the counseling center when faced with issues bothering them.

In his words, “Don’t solve your problems yourself, be assertive, be strong and be confident; visit the counseling center.”

He also advised the students to shun examination malpractice.

The interactive session allowed students to raise concerns, share their expectations, and seek guidance on issues ranging from academic policies and course registration to accommodation, security, and extracurricular activities.

Prof. Njoseh along with other key officials present provided detailed and thoughtful answers to questions asked by the new students.

Some of the key topics addressed included: ‘Strategies for Academic Success’ and ‘Maintaining a Healthy Balance Between Academics and Social Life’, The Importance of Adhering to University Rules and ‘The Consequences of Misconduct’.

Others are ‘Available Support Systems for Students including counseling services and student unions, ‘Safety Tips and the Measures Put in Place By The University to Ensure A Secure Campus Environment’.

The enlightenment was well received by the students, as they expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interact directly with university officials.

The open and transparent dialogue fostered a sense of belonging and trust among the freshers in their journey to integrate into the DELSU community.

Some of the university’s officials who also were present include the Sub Dean, Students’ Affairs, Associate Prof Isreal Odede, Director Ceremonials, Information and Public Relations, Prof. Enajite Ojaruega and Deputy Director CIPR, Dr. Patrick Ijeh.

Others are the Chief Security Officer, Mr Odita Ifeanyi, Chief Security Adviser, Mr Michael Tagar, Deputy University Librarian, Dr. Mrs Violet Ikolo, HOD, Religion and Philosophy, Dr Festus Omosor and the PRO, DELSU, Mr Henry Eseka, SUG President: Augustine Onovughe and the Admission Officer, Mrs Philomena Omatsola.

The orientation program will continue on Friday with more activities planned to prepare the new students for a successful academic journey.
