UYLA Backs Calls For The Establishment Of Mini LNG Plants In Urhoboland

The Urhobo Leaders’ Association (UYLA) is advocating for the establishment of at least two mini LNG plants in Urhoboland, backing calls from other Urhobo organisations like the Urhobo Federated Council (UFC) and the Urhobo Oil and Gas Nationality (UROAGAN).

UYLA’s National President, Olorogun (Amb) Samuel Onoriode Oghotomo (JP), and National Secretary, Olorogun (Dr) Augustine Ogheneovo Atiti, emphasised that the Urhobo people have been marginalised despite their land being a major source of gas and crude oil. They believe it is only fair that Urhoboland benefits from the establishment of these mini LNG plants.

Interestingly, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced plans to establish 12 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) mother stations and mini-Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) plants across the country with five of them allegedly going to be sited in Kogi State. Perhaps this presents an opportunity for Urhoboland to be considered for some of these projects.

UYLA therefore urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the plan to establish five mini LNG plants in Kogi State, arguing that Urhoboland, with its rich gas and crude oil reserves, deserves to have at least two of these plants.
