Delta Police Arrest Four Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Incriminating Items

The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected armed robbers linked to a criminal syndicate accused of attacking residents in Ughelli and its environs, inflicting injuries with cutlasses, and dispossessing victims of their motorcycles.

According to a press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the arrests followed a series of complaints from residents over the activities of the gang.

The statement disclosed that operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP SAT), acting on credible intelligence and in collaboration with members of the Ughelli Kingdom Vigilantes, carried out coordinated operations between 6:30 a.m. and 9:10 a.m. on April 20, 2026, across various locations within Ughelli metropolis.

During the operation, three suspects were initially arrested. They were identified as Surajo Atar, 25, from Bigal Village in Gada Local Government Area of Sokoto State; Abba Musa, 24, from Madara Village in Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State; and Babangida Yusuf, 25, from Hamdullahi Village in Albasu Local Government Area of Kano State.

Police said items recovered from the suspects at the point of arrest included a cutlass and a black mask believed to have been used in carrying out their criminal activities.

Further interrogation reportedly led operatives to the Trailer Park area along Sapele Road, Warri, where one Abdurasheed Shafiu, 31, was arrested. He was identified as a receiver of stolen motorcycles and allegedly confessed to purchasing the stolen items from the gang.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, assured residents that investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover stolen properties belonging to victims.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and useful information to assist the police in fighting crime across the state.
