Preserving Urhobo Unity Through Respect For Zoning And Collective Interest Ahead Of 2027

As 2027 approaches, it is important for the Urhobo nation to place unity, fairness, and long-standing internal understanding above individual ambition. Over the years, Urhobo political stability has been guided by an unwritten but respected zoning understanding between the Eastern and Western divisions of Urhoboland. This delicate balance has helped to maintain peace, inclusion, and mutual respect among our people.

Urhobo is broadly organized into two divisions: the Eastern Division with Ughelli as its headquarters and the Western Division with Orerokpe as its headquarters.A practical tradition has evolved where key political offices are shared across these divisions. When the Governor emerges from one division, the Senator representing Delta Central is expected to come from the other. This understanding has promoted harmony and reduced rivalry within Urhoboland.

Today, Gov Sheriff Oborevwori, an Urhobo son from Okpe Kingdom in the Western Division, serves as Governor of Delta State. By this long-standing understanding, it is reasonable that the Delta Central Senatorial seat in 2027 should emerge from the Eastern Division to preserve the balance that has served Urhobo well.

This appeal is not directed against any individual but is offered in the spirit of an elder counsel and collective interest. Ede Dafinone, also from Okpe Kingdom, has served diligently. However, for the sake of peace, equity, and continuity of this zoning understanding, it would be wise to allow the senatorial ticket to move to the Eastern axis of Urhobo in 2027.

It is also widely believed that Governor Oborevwori enjoys broad acceptance among Urhobo people as a preferred consensus figure within the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 governorship race in Delta State, given that the governorship remains zoned to Delta Central. Supporting this consensus while respecting internal zoning for the Senate will strengthen Urhobo’s collective bargaining power and prevent avoidable divisions.

In this regard, many Urhobo stakeholders see Ovie Omo-Agege as the most acceptable option from the Eastern Division to represent Delta Central in the Senate, thereby maintaining the internal balance that has fostered peace.

This is not a contest of personalities but a call for strategic unity. It would be unfair and potentially divisive for both the Governor and the Senator representing Urhobo to emerge from the same Okpe axis when a workable arrangement already exists to ensure inclusion across Urhoboland.

Let every son, daughter, and well-wisher of Urhobo rise above personal loyalties and support a path that guarantees sustainable peace, fairness, and unity. Our strength lies not in individual victories but in collective harmony.
