NUJ Delta Hails Oborevwori Over Approval Of 13th-Month Salary For Public Workers

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has commended Governor for approving the payment of a 13th-month salary to public servants in the state, describing the decision as a landmark welfare initiative.

In a statement jointly signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Churchill Oyowe, and Acting Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior, the union said the approval demonstrates the governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, motivation and productivity of the state’s workforce.

The NUJ particularly praised Governor Oborevwori for approving the payment of a full month’s salary as the 13th-month package instead of the basic salary option adopted in some other states. According to the union, the gesture reflects the administration’s genuine concern for the economic well-being of workers and their families.

The council noted that the additional salary would provide much-needed financial relief for workers, especially at the beginning of the year when many households struggle to recover from expenses incurred during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

It stated that the initiative would enable workers to meet family obligations, settle pressing financial commitments and return to work with renewed confidence, peace of mind and enthusiasm.

The union further observed that the policy would boost workers’ morale, strengthen their purchasing power, stimulate economic activities across the state and deepen the cordial relationship between government and organised labour.

According to the NUJ, the historic welfare package aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda and reinforces his administration’s commitment to prioritising workers’ welfare as a catalyst for sustainable development.

The council also urged local government councils in the state to emulate the governor by extending similar welfare packages to their workers to ensure they also enjoy the benefits of improved staff welfare.

The NUJ expressed appreciation to Governor Oborevwori for what it described as an exemplary display of compassionate leadership, expressing confidence that the initiative would inspire greater dedication, loyalty and efficiency among public servants while strengthening Delta State’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most worker-friendly states.

The union also prayed for God’s continued wisdom, good health and success for the governor as he continues to lead the state.
