Olisa Flags Off Construction Of Ultra Modern Civic Centre In Agwetiti Community

In furtherance of its commitment to delivering sustainable infrastructure and improving the quality of life in oil-producing communities, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, on Friday July 17, 2026 flagged off the construction of an ultra modern civic centre in Agwetiti Community, Ndokwa East Local Government Area.

The project was officially inaugurated by the Member representing Ndokwa ethnic nationality on the DESOPADEC Governing Board, Dr. Charles Olisa, KSM, JP, during a colourful ceremony attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth groups, political stakeholders, and residents who gathered in large numbers to witness the historic occasion.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Dr. Olisa described the project as another milestone in DESOPADEC’s unwavering resolve to provide impactful infrastructure across the mandate areas, noting that the civic centre would serve as a strategic hub for community governance, social engagement, cultural activities, and other developmental programmes.

“Today marks another milestone in our commitment to the development of Ndokwa nation. This ultra modern civic centre is more than just a building; it is a symbol of unity, progress and community development. When completed, it will provide a befitting venue for meetings, social functions, and other activities that will benefit the entire community.

“The administration of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in collaboration with DESOPADEC, remains committed to ensuring that every oil-producing community enjoys the dividends of good governance. Agwetiti has waited patiently for this project and I am delighted to perform this flag-off on behalf of the Commission.

“I therefore urge the contractor to deliver a quality project within the stipulated timeline. I also appeal to the youths and the entire community to take ownership of the project by providing the necessary support and ensuring its protection throughout the construction period,” he said.

Dr. Olisa further reaffirmed DESOPADEC’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with host communities through the execution of people-oriented projects that promote socio-economic development and improve living standards across the oil-producing areas of Delta State.

In their separate goodwill messages, community leaders and stakeholders expressed profound appreciation to Dr. Charles Olisa, the DESOPADEC Governing Board, and the Delta State Government for bringing the long-awaited project to Agwetiti and pledged the community’s full cooperation and support to ensure the successful and timely completion of the civic centre.

The ceremony was attended by DESOPADEC officials, political leaders, traditional and community stakeholders, youths, women groups and other dignitaries, underscoring the significance of the project to the people of Agwetiti and the broader Ndokwa East Local Government Area.
