Promises N60, 000 Minimum Wage To Workers

By Daniel Dafe

The candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Delta State, Dr. John Akwara, for the March 2 governorship election has said that he is in the race to tackle “the gross underdevelopment that has taken place going to 20 years of PDP’s misrule of the state,” adding that he is not comfortable with happenings in the oil rich state.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) in Sapele during an exclusive chat, he added: “I want to develop Delta State in all areas such as human capital development, as well as upgrade the agricultural sector, provide good health care, amongst other things.”

According to him, if given the mandate to govern the state, things will be done differently.

His words: “I am like an Elijah that is coming to rescue delta with the ‘Operation Rescue Delta Mandate, the Akwara Phenomenon’.

“If I become governor, if the minimum wage at the federal level is N30, 000, I am not looking at N30, 000, but looking at giving my workers a minimum wage of at least N60, 000.

“If you calculate the money that has come into the state, you would see that little or nothing is happening here. In short, let us take it from the time of our former governor, Chief James Ibori and compare with the present administration and you would agree with me that now in Okowa’s government they are not doing anything now, but are just collecting money.”

According to him, “kleptomanias have been ruling the state that has witnessed massive looting of her resources.”

He urged Deltans to vote for him and other candidates of SDP during the 2019 polls, saying that the party stands for progress.
