The Delta State Chapter of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), led by Dr. Ochuko Akpeme, Executive Director, Classical International Schools, Warri, has held a valedictory service for a departed colleague, Stella Pessu.
The ceremony took place today at Gloryland Schools, Amukpe, Sapele, as dignitaries from all walks of life graced the event.
Speaking during the programme, the State President, Dr. Akpeme, who doubles as the South-South Vice-President of the association, reminded members of NAPPS and the family of the deceased that the Bible enjoins Christians to “give thanks to God in all things.”
According to him, the news of Stella Pessu’s death broke his heart when he learnt of it,” adding that “she stood for the actualization of NAPPS in the state.”
He added: “She fought like a man and was always at the forefront of NAPPS activities even till death. She died in active service. NAPPS in Delta State has lost a General.”
“Till the day of her departure, she was committed to the work of God. She lived an exemplary life,” he stressed.
On his part, the Acting Chairman, Sapele Chapter, Pastor Victor Idemudia, while delivering an address, said: “We are bereaved and groaning in sorrow over the demise of our mother, our elder sister, our friend and our rare leader.”
He continued: “She was never a colleague. Her uncommon features are those that make her not to be our colleague. She was rather a mother, a mentor and a rare leader.”
Several presentations from pupils and students of the school spiced up the event.
Until her death, Pessu was the Executive Director of Gloryland Schools. Few weeks to her demise, she contested and won the position of State Welfare Secretary.
Pessu, fondly called ‘Mama NAPPS’ will be buried on Saturday, June 27, 2019, in Sapele.
