Gov. Okowa Worried Over Continuous Disagreement Between Doctors, Health Workers In Delta

Delta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed worry over the continuous disagreement between medical doctors and other health workers in the state, as he charged the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to ensure they work in unison to deliver quality healthcare to Deltans.

Governor Okowa spoke on Friday during the visit of the branch officers committee of NMA, Delta State chapter at the Government House, Asaba congratulated the team on their victory in the elections that brought them into officer.

Speaking further, Okowa emphasized that a lot was expected from the association especially on the aspect of discipline of staff in their place of work.

The governor admonished the head officials to ensure that Deltans were given quality healthcare in the hospitals.

According to the governor “If someone is coming to a hospital, the warmth of the reception for the patient is even more important than the ambiance of the hospital.”

Governor Okowa addressed the issue of disagreement between the doctors and health workers, saying “there are issues about the relationship between doctors and other health workers.

He urged NMA to ensure that government hospitals are run in a peaceful manner.

“The management quality that is advanced by the head will go a long way to ensure that we have functional hospitals,” he stated.

The governor encouraged the doctors, nurses and other health workers to show commitment to patients and continue in the partnership to ensure quality health care delivery in the state.

He stressed on the need to drive the process of the contributory health insurance for all deltans, so that the citizens can have access to medical care without paying from their pockets each time they go to the hospital.

Okowa promised to continue to provide services in line with the health care insurance policy and continue to develop riverside areas in such a way that they can truly be like the upland, so that all parts of the state will feel the impact of the government.

Governor Okowa thanked the doctors and nurses for the great work done in containing the pandemic and promised to look into all the issues presented to him and address them for the overall good of healthcare delivery in the state.

Earlier, the Chairman,
NMA, Delta State, Dr Nwose Emmanuel Ossai said the visit was to commend the governor for his achievements during the COVID-19 pandemic and also to seek partnership with his administration in moving the health sector in the state forward.

Dr Emmanuel also commended the governor for approving the residency training programme in the state which he said will be beneficial in improving the quality of health care delivery in the state.

Furthermore, Emmanuel appreciated the governor for being one of the first states in the country to pay the COVID-19 pandemic allowance to medical workers despite the financial challenges caused by the pandemic.
