FADA Takes Campaign Against Drug Abuse To Schools In Uvwie

A Non-Governmental Organization, NGO, Friends Against Drug Abuse (FADA) on Wednesday began a campaign against drug abuse in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

The sensitization activities of the group in secondary schools within the said area began at Opete Secondary School.
According to the group, the rate at which youths are involved in the illicit use of drugs is quite alarming and requires a collective intervention by all well meaning agencies, adding that the responsibility cannot be left for the government alone.
Students of Opete Secondary School were taught extensively the dangers of drug abuse, its effect on their health and how it affects the society relatively.
The group noted that the spate of violence and crimes being experienced today are not far-fetched from the abuse of drugs and illicit substances which have the ability to create a negative thinking pattern in those that are involved in it.
The President of FADA, Comr. Ejiro Taro Joseph, emphasized the need to catch the youths young in other for them not to fall prey to any gimmicks that will make them engage in unhealthy practices.
In the same vein, Comr Lawrence Akporehe and Comr. Victor Oberhiri, stressed on possible determinants that could lead to drug abuse and advised the students to concentrate on their studies, saying that they are the future leaders of tomorrow.
Adding that those engaged in drug abuse will only end up retarded and as such will not be able to achieve their goals in life.
The sensitization exercise was also accompanied with distribution of the FADA customised nose masks to students of Opete Secondary School.
Oasis Magazine learnt that the exercise continues tomorrow (today) at Ekpan Secondary School, Ekpan.
The programme is scheduled to end on Friday with a visit to Army Day Secondary School.
