NANS Zone B Condemns Kidnap Of Abia University Students, Issues State Govt. 48-Hour Ultimatum To Secure Their Release

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS Zone B, South South and South East, has said that “the recent security brouhaha in this country is eating deep into the fabrics of our society posing serious threats to life and properties,” while condemning in strong terms the adoption of over 10 students of Abia State University.

A statement signed by Comr. Etinyene Friday Offongekpe, Coordinator,
NANS Zone B,
South South and South East Nigeria, demanded the immediate release of the students within 48hours.

Adding: “After 48hours and the students are not released, Nigerian students from across the 11 states of South-south and Southeast will hit the street of Abia state to demand for their freedom.”

“We will not watch our enemies eat deep into our nostril because an injury to one, Is an injury to all.

“We are deeply concerned that Nigerian students have continually fallen victims of security shortfall in our country.

“With our hearts still laddened with pains and sadness over the kidnap students in the northern part of the country yet to be released, some killed and demands for ransom, we are regretably inforned that some students of Abia State university were abducted by unknown gunmen along Okigwe Uturu road returning to school at about 7:30pm on Wednesday 05 May 2021,” the statement said.

According to the statement, “two of the students escaped and currently receiving treatment in the hospital,” noting that “it is challenging that our security architecture as a nation is fast experiencing a downward spiral.”

Furthermore, the association also demanded that “the State governments of Abia and Imo collaborate with NANS Zone B to activate a strong apparatus in search of the abducted students and as well institute a strong security network to gear up the fight against insecurity facing host communities of tertiary institutions of learning.”
