Delta Constitutes 7-Man Human Rights Committee, As Harrison Gwamnishu, Israel Joe Make List

To ensure that the fundamental rights of citizens are respected and protected by police officers, the Delta State Government has constituted a 7-man Human Rights Committee.

This was disclosed in a government special announcement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Patrick Ukah and dated October 18, 2021.

According to the official memo, this move follows due consideration by the state government of the report of the Judicial Panel of Enquiry on the End-SARs protests.

While the Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa will chair the Committee, Mr. Harrison Gwamnishu (representative of youths) and Comrade Israel Joe (representative of Civil Society), made the list.

Other members of the committee are the Attorney-General & Commissioner of Justice, Commissioner for Youth Development, Commissioner for Police and the Functioning Solicitor-General & Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice.

The committee will be inaugurated at the Governor’s Conference room on Wednesday at 10am.
