Private Schools Should Key Into Teaching Of Uvwie Dialect – Edjedegba

One of Uvwie indigenes that is saddled with the development of corriculum in Uvwie dialect in Uvwie Local Government Area, Chief Abraham Edjedegba, an engineer has urged private schools in the local government to key Into the teaching of Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language.
The respected Uvwie chief, who bears the title of Egbe’ of Uvwie Kingdom made the call in an exclusive media chat with our correspondent during the 30th anniversary special graduation/ prize giving day ceremony of the famous St. Anastasia Heights Montessori & Secondary School International, Effurun Uvwie Local Government Area on Saturday, 20th July, 2024.
The respected Uvwie chief disclosed that the Ministry of Basic and Primary Education has approved the teaching of the Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language only in government schools in Uvwie Local Government Area.

He disclosed that the Delta Government has also approved for the teaching of teachers that teach learners of the Uvwie dialect at Uvwie Hall , along Petroleum Training Institute ( PTI)Road on Monday 24th July, 2024.
Edjedegba hinted that the forthcoming teach the teachers of Uvwie dialect program was the 9th stage of the 10 stages of the program as he also disclosed that over 100 persons were expected in the program.
Edjedegba who appreciated HRM Dr Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso (JP) OON Abe 1, the Ovie Uvwie Kingdom for his support for the teaching and learning of Uvwie dialect in Uvwie Local Government, further disclosed that the 10th stage of the program was the commencement of the teaching of Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language in all government schools in Uvwie Local Government Area in September 2024.
He explained that one of the benefits of the program was to reduce the difficulties in teaching and learning of the dialect to the barest minimum particularly to those Uvwie people in diaspora and to also protect the Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language from going to extinction.
