National Association Of Artificial Intelligence Practitioners Congratulates DELSU VC, Asagba

The National Association of Artificial Intelligence Practitioners, NAAIP, has congratulated the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Samuel O. Asagba.

This was contained in a congratulatory letter presented to the 8th Substantive VC on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by NAAIP.

The letter reads in part: “On behalf of the Executive Committee and members of National Association of Artificial Intelligence Practitioners (NAAIP), we congratulate you, heartily, on your assumption of duty as the Vice Chancellor, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka. We wish to inform you that DELSU has two major leaders of NAAIP; Professor Andy Egwunyenga, your predecessor who is a member of the Board of Trustees and Professor Jonathan Tsetimi, the Director of your Centre for Research and International Programmes (CRIP) who is Vice-President, South-South. DELSU also boasts of very many active members of NAAIP.”

The congratulatory message jointly signed by Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede (President) and Dr. Kehinde Abiola (General Secretary), continued: “We wish to appreciate and thank you for your support and contributions to NAAIP even before you were appointed Vice-Chancellor, and solicit for your continuous support as you steer the ship of this great University. NAAIP would like to assure you and your administration of our support, cooperation and collaboration as you continue to advance and raise the standards of higher education in DELSU, Nigeria and globally.

“We wish you a successful tenure of the office. Thank you.”

In his response, the VC, said: “I am happy for this visit by NAAIP, I am also happy to hear that DELSU has been ranked as a leader in Nigeria in terms of establishment of a policy, AI policy. So, we will work more on that policy. As an association well-grounded in DELSU, I would be glad if you can give me useful advice or information on how to deploy AI into some of our processes here in the university, particularly in the teaching and learning processes.”

He added: “Because it is also part of my vision to enhance our quality of our graduate, to enhance our teaching methodology, we have no other choice than to adopt AI as an instrument for students. I recall one of my visits to the library of a private university where there was some innovative use of AI in their Library. So it is imperative now, since you people are already in this, let us explore how we can adopt the use of AI in the library and even in the ICT to make it better. So, when students use our portal or website there should be an AI section that can assist them. I believe that we have started well, more and more people will soon join NAAIP. So, I will start by also joining formally.”

The NAAIP delegation was led by Professor Jonathan Tsetimi who is the NAAIP Vice-President South-South and also the Director Centre for Research and International Programmes (CRIP) DELSU.

NAAIP members in company of the Vice-President South-South present at the occasion included Professors Noyo Edama, Ignatius Njoseh, Enajite Ojaruega, Uwomano Okpevra and Mathew Ojezele.

Other members of NAAIP present were Dr Merrious Ofomola, Dr (Mrs) Emuobonuvie Ajiboye and Mr. Genesis Edho.
