By Daniel Dafe
On Wednesday, Comr. (Amb) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, National Coordinator, Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancement (ISRCA) AKA “No Justice, No Peace” led a few members of Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancements (ISRCA) in a collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, Delta State Command on an initiative tagged “Say No To Crime, Shun Violence And Embrace Peace.”
Speaking to Oasis Magazine exclusively, Agberen said that “it was a moment to engage with motorists, tricyclists and other road users traversing the DSC Effurun Roundabout in Delta State on pressing issues related to insecurity challenges affecting the State and country at large,” where they urged the public to support the police in combating crime and providing vital information to prevent or apprehend criminal activities.
According to him, “while insecurity persists as a global issue in recent times, individuals and society have crucial roles to play,” saying that “the roles of government at all levels cannot be overstated, given the profound impact of insecurity and crime, which are often rooted in poor governance.”
He continued: “While I recognize the efforts made by the Delta State Commissioner of Police; CP Olufemi Abaniwonda in the fight against crime in the State, especially having one of Nigeria’s finest Divisional Police officer, CSP Aliyu Shaba under your sagacious leadership, the fight against crime cannot be enough as criminals keep devising new crime strategies. However, we look forward to subsequently collaborate with the State command in numerous ways.
“I further emphasized the importance for the State and Federal Government to create sufficient opportunities for youths to showcase and utilize their potentials, earning a living from it. They should establish genuine empowerment schemes for all, especially for persons in the rural areas regardless of political and religious affiliations.”
