2027: APC Groups Mount Pressure On Emerhor To Contest Delta Central Senate Seat

Political pressure groups within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State—the Emerhor Political Family (EPF) and the Delta Central Youth Council (DCYC)—have intensified calls on the party’s founding leader in the state, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, to declare his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The groups maintained that Emerhor’s long-standing sacrifices and contributions to the growth of the APC in Delta State make him the most suitable candidate to represent the district at the National Assembly.

Emerhor, a businessman-turned-politician, was the first to contest a senatorial election on the platform of the APC shortly after the party’s formation in 2013. He also served as the party’s governorship candidate in 2015, a move widely credited with laying the foundation for the APC’s current structure in the state.

The renewed call was made on Monday during a visit to his country home in Evwerni, Ughelli North Local Government Area. The delegation was led by the Chairman of the Elders/Leaders of the Emerhor Political Family, Chief Martins Owhoevwo, alongside notable stakeholders including former Ambassador Frank Efeduma.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Chief Owhoevwo described Emerhor as a unifying and accommodating leader whose inclusive approach has helped build a formidable political structure over the years. He noted that the APC’s steady growth in Delta State is largely a result of Emerhor’s sacrifices, resilience, and commitment to fostering unity within the party.

An APC Delta State House of Assembly aspirant for Uvwie Local Government Area, Mr. Mudiaga Okorefe, also stressed the need for fairness and inclusiveness in the distribution of political opportunities in Delta Central. He urged Emerhor to heed the call, assuring him of the readiness of party faithful to mobilise in his support.

Similarly, Sir Godwin Ohwoekevwo appealed to the APC leader to accept the challenge, describing him as a tested and trusted figure who has earned the right to lead through years of dedication and mentorship. He assured of widespread grassroots support ahead of the party’s primaries.

Other stakeholders, including Dr. Kennedy Okparavero, Comrade Enakurerhi Oghenemine, Deaconess Margaret Akpode, and Comrade Joseph Edegware, echoed the call, urging party leaders at both state and national levels to recognise and reward Emerhor’s contributions.

In his response, Emerhor expressed appreciation for the show of loyalty and support, acknowledging the role played by members of the political family in building the APC since 2013.

He, however, cautioned against making a hasty decision, noting that consultations were still ongoing.
“I appreciate the confidence reposed in me and the sacrifices you have all made over the years,” he said.

“While I am aware of my capacity and readiness to serve, it is important that I continue consultations to ensure that any decision taken aligns with the broader interests of the party and our people.”

Emerhor added that he would communicate his final decision to stakeholders once consultations are concluded.
