DELSU Honours HRM Abaja, Others At 18th Convocation

Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has conferred honorary degrees and special recognitions on distinguished Nigerians in appreciation of their outstanding contributions to society.

At the institution’s 18th Convocation Ceremony, His Royal Majesty, King Friday Oddini Abaja, the Ukwata of Umukwata Kingdom in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A. Honoris Causa) for his achievements as a seasoned entrepreneur and philanthropist.

The university also elevated Professor Patrick S. Igbigbi to the rank of Professor Emeritus of Human Anatomy and Cell Biology, in recognition of his remarkable academic contributions and years of dedicated service.

In the same vein, Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammadu Indimi, OFR, a prominent entrepreneur and philanthropist, received the Honorary Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A. Honoris Causa), while Olorogun (Mrs.) Grace Emonigho Aghoghovbia was conferred with the Doctor of Humane Letters (L.H.D. Honoris Causa) for her exceptional leadership and humanitarian impact.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Prof. Samuel Asagba, said the honours were bestowed on individuals whose lives and achievements reflect excellence, service, and commitment to societal development.

He noted that the recognition aligns with the university’s tradition of celebrating role models who inspire younger generations to strive for greatness.

Prof. Asagba also highlighted key milestones recorded by the institution, revealing that 107 graduands bagged First Class honours in the 2024/2025 academic session.

He expressed appreciation to the Delta State Government for its sustained support, particularly the award of the contract for the completion of the long-abandoned Senate building, the prompt payment of staff salaries, and the implementation of improved welfare packages for lecturers.

“These landmark interventions, amounting to several billions of naira, are unprecedented in the history of our university,” he said, adding that the institution remains committed to academic excellence and continuous development.

The conferment of honorary degrees formed a major highlight of the convocation ceremony.
