Seplat Fire Fighters Protest Non Staffing For Over Ten Years

By Joe Aminah, Sapele
No fewer than fifty fire fighters of SEPLAT Petroleum Development Company, recently staged a downtool protest at its administrative office in Sapele over irregularities in their employment with the fast growing oil and gas exploration company.
The workers (in their red firemen overall) presence at the SEPLAT gate, visibly slowed down official duties ,as the company’s entry gate was wide open while top managers of the company were said to have vacated their seats in their respective offices.
Loitering outside the company premises, the workers who spoke to journalists on account of anonymity disclosed that SEPLAT reneged on its aggrement in confirming the workers after stipulated years of probation as casual workers.

Some of the placards dangled and others stuck to the entrance of the company, bore inscriptions like ” we demand staffing, staffing, staffing” we are skilled workers, not labourers”, third party need their palliatives” and ” since 2012 till date, no staffing, still on labour.
They further explained, saying, for over ten years of their engagement under FASAPILLARS Limited, SEPLAT is yet to confirm their appointments as staffers, notwithstanding their harzardous engagement as fire fighters all these years.
