How Agbor PG, Lawrence Onyeche Died –Family Clarifies

Contrary to rumour that the President General of Agbor Community Union, Chief Lawrence Egun Onyeche, was killed by Okada riders from the north, family members have debunked the reports.

A post on Monday by an aide to the Governor of Delta State, Billy Egbe, said Onyeche, “was killed by Hausa marauders last night in Asaba opposite Northwest Petrol Station.”

Adding: “He was mobbed and killed in front of his wife after a minor accident.”

The post continued: “I really don’t understand why there are so many Hausa boys in our communities. Our people need to make a decision on this matter. We are surrounded by criminal elements and we call them Hausa people when in reality, many of them are from neighboring countries.”

But, a statement by the Onyeche family said the deceased was not physically harmed by the motorcyclists.

The family added: “What is clear though is that the stress and trauma of the entire event must have contributed to the unfortunate outcome.”

CONCERNING THE DEATH OF THE PRESIDENT GENERAL OF AGBOR COMMUNITY UNION.

We the Onyeche family are devastated at the passing of the head of our family Chief Larry Onyeche yesterday 10th of March 2024.

In spite of our loss we are aware that Agbor Kingdom has also lost their President General (PG) and our responsibility to keep Agbor Kingdom informed.

We therefore would like to officially inform and clarify the circumstances surrounding the passing of our father and leader.

On 10th March 2024, around 6 PM,  the PG, chief Lawrence Egun Onyeche, was involved in a collision with a motorcyclist of the northern origin, along Okpanam expressway. When he noticed the threat from the other motorcyclists at the scene he drove away with the motorcyclists chasing him. Nearing his home, his car broke down but he managed to get inside his compound. The motorcyclists  reached his car and vandalised it.

At home, after inviting the police and in the process of informing them about what had transpired, he collapsed. His son was able to revive him at first and the provided him with his blood pressure medication but he lost consciousness again. He was then rushed to the hospital in Asaba where he was pronounced dead.

To the best of our knowledge and based on his own account, the President General (PG) was not physically harmed by the motorcyclists. However, whether he suffered any internal injury during the collision with the motorcyclist during the collision is still unclear. What is clear though is that the stress and trauma of the entire event must have contributed to the unfortunate outcome.

As at the time of writing this release, there has been no report of injury to the the motorcyclist he collided with.

We hope that this clarification will help us all to deal with this loss.

On our part as a family, we are devastated and doing our best to deal with this.

We hereby appeal to all citizens of Agbor to remain calm and remember the President General with love and as the gentle soul he is.

We will keep cooperating with the executive of Agbor Community Union on this matter.
