Ezewu Reaffirms Gov. Oborevwori’s Commitment To Drive Innovative Policies For Educational Development In Delta

Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, has said that the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is commitment to building a Delta State that works for all , especially in the education industry though innovative programmes and policies geared towards effective and efficient educational services for greater productivity.

Ezewu stated this in Asaba at the 2025 West African Examination Council State Committee meeting.

Represented by the Functioning Permanent Secretary in Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Patricia Iniovosa-Okakwu, she said that the initiative had contributed to the continued improved performances of students in the state over the years, both in internal and external examinations in the state.

Ezewu stated that the WAEC State Committee meeting was an annual forum that avails the stakeholders the opportunity to review the conduct of the last West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates in Delta State.

While saying the delay on arrival of English question papers resulting to students writing examination at night with the use of torch light in some centres should be totally discouraged, Ezewu congratulated the Council on her successful conduct of the 2025 May/June WAEC for school candidates and the timely release of the results.

The Commissioner, however, pledged her unwavering support to the Council in achieving a common goal by ensuring the provision of standardized education to every child in Delta State.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Director of Examinations in the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Clementina Ojumah said that the meeting provided an important opportunity to deliberate on key issues affecting the conduct of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination and to access the performance of students in the state.

Ojumah noted that their collective goal was to identify actionable strategies that would further improve Delta State performance in future examinations, adding that this could only be achieved through collaborative discussions where every stakeholder contributes meaningfully and every idea receives due consideration.

The Director of Examinations stated that Delta State remained firmly committed to raising academic standards, providing platforms that allow the students to demonstrate their potentials, foster a culture of integrity, unity and academic pride during examinations.

Ojumah urged the Council and stakeholders to collectively explore the establishment of a dedicated distribution centre for examination materials with the state to ensure efficiency and timelines in future examinations.

She lauded the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rose Ezewu for her inclusive and exceptional leadership in advancing education across the state, stressing that her unwavering support and commitment has made the meeting possible.

Ojumah also commended the Council for its decades of dedication, professionalism and resilience in promoting academic excellence, emphasizing that the Council’s consistency in maintaining high standards had continued to inspire confidence in the education system.

In her remarks, a representative of WAEC, Lagos, Mrs. G. U . Chukwudi -Nwoko, who appreciated Delta State Government for the robust synergy with the Council in the conduct of its examination, said that the meeting was holding simultaneously in all States in Nigeria.

She appealed to Ministry of Education to support the new WAEC Branch Controller for the State, Mr. Oladele, O. E to enable him deliver effectively and get results on his responsibility
