Anambra Govt Debunks Collapse Claim At New Government House

The Anambra State Government has dismissed reports alleging that a structure within the new Government House collapsed during a recent rainstorm, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on April 11, 2026, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, said no building within the Government House complex was affected by the heavy downpour recorded on Thursday, April 9.

According to him, the incident widely reported in sections of the media only involved minor damage to barricade partitions located outside the Government House, about 20 metres away from the perimeter fence.

He explained that the damage was caused by strong winds and thunderstorms that swept across parts of the state, affecting not just the Government House surroundings but also private properties.

Aburime further disclosed that the Anambra Capital Territory Development Authority has since mobilised to the site, with repair works already underway.

He added that additional engineering measures are being introduced to prevent a recurrence, including redesigning the barricade area to allow for freer wind movement.

The government, however, condemned what it described as the spread of fake news on the incident, accusing some elements of attempting to mislead the public and politicise a natural weather occurrence.

It urged residents to disregard the reports and continue to support the administration’s development efforts.
