Delta CP Visits Oghara Monarch, Rallies Stakeholders Against Kidnapping, Cultism

The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has intensified efforts to strengthen security across the state with a strategic visit to Oghara, where he met with the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom and convened a security meeting with key stakeholders in Ethiope West Local Government Area.

The visit, held on Monday, formed part of the Delta State Police Command’s ongoing engagement with traditional institutions and community leaders aimed at enhancing community policing and improving public safety.

During a courtesy visit to the palace of the Ovie of Oghara Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Noble Oyibo Eshemitan, JP, FCA, the Uku Oghara Na’me, Orefe III, CP Oyeniyi commended the monarch for fostering peace and unity within the kingdom.

The police commissioner, after assessing the security situation in Oghara, observed that the area remained largely peaceful despite isolated incidents of kidnapping and cultism. He reiterated the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, , on strengthening collaboration with traditional rulers, local government authorities and communities to improve policing.

Describing criminal elements as a common enemy, the CP urged residents and stakeholders to sustain intelligence sharing and work collectively to maintain peace and security. In his response, the Ovie praised CP Oyeniyi as a competent and purposeful leader and assured him of the kingdom’s continued support for the police in protecting lives and property.

The commissioner later held a strategic security meeting attended by the Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Area, Pastor Christian Onogba, youth leaders, Presidents-General of communities, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), representatives of the Arewa community and other stakeholders.

Discussions centred on the rising concerns of drug abuse, cultism and kidnapping. Participants resolved to deepen cooperation with security agencies through timely intelligence sharing, protection of informants and stronger collaboration among the police, judiciary, local government and community leaders to ensure effective prosecution of criminal suspects.

CP Oyeniyi assured stakeholders that the Delta State Police Command would continue to strengthen intelligence-led policing and strategic partnerships with traditional institutions and communities to tackle crime across the state.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to professional, proactive and people-centred policing in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, while the council chairman pledged the support of the local government in promoting a safer and more secure Ethiope West.
