Council Revenue Boys Threaten Sapele Market Traders Over Omo-Agege’s Visit

….Accuses Them Of Being APC Members

Traders at the Sapele main market on Monday morning woke up to a new low after boys suspected to be working for the Sapele local government revenue collection team accused them of belonging to the All Progressive Congress, APC, and promised to deal with them for their role in welcoming Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, on Saturday afternoon to the market

On Saturday, Ovie Omo-Agege had visited the Sapele main market with his campaign team after a stop over at the Amukpe and Okirighwre market in what he said was a thank you visit for voting him in 2015, 2019 and now voting the party candidate in the Senate, Chief Ede Dafinone.

The Deputy Senate President’s visit however became more like a carnival after market men and women in their thousands thronged the streets leading to the main market road singing his praise and some women offering their wrapper for Omo-Agege to walk on.

In the visit, the DSP had promised to resuscitate the Sapele seaport, reduce the school fees of tertiary institute, pay bursary to students and pay pensioners and retirees among other promises.

But on Monday, the market traders were shocked when suspected market revenue committee members began to hurl their load off the main market road where the traders have been selling and asking them to go and sell at the market Omo-Agege built and threatening them openly that they will pay for the kind of reception they gave the DSP on Saturday.

A trader at the Sapele main market who refused to tell her name for fear of being victimized told Kokodia that she was accused of organizing women for Omo-Agege and was threatened.

“They told me PDP built the market not APC, and they asked me to go to APC market to trade.

“They were three and they threw my load away until some persons intervened and begged them’,” the middle woman who was visible shaken said.

Scores of traders who also confirmed the story said the attack on the market women and men started from on the previous day, Sunday.

“They openly told us we will regret our actions, only for them to start threatening us on Monday morning to leave PDP market and go to APC market as if APC has a market of its own,” another woman who craved anonymity told Kokodia,

When this reporter confronted a high ranking member of the PDP in Sapele on the alleged threat by the suspected market revenue collectors, the chieftain laughed it off, saying it was not true, adding: ”They are fabricating stories, that’s not true,” before begging this reporter to leave his name out of the report.
