DELSU VC Admits 692 New Students Into The University

The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Andy Egwunyenga yesterday admitted 692 new students in the College of Education, Warri Affiliate Centre, into the University at a colourful ceremony attended by Principal Officers of the University and the College; and other members of the University and College Communities.

In his address to the Matriculating Students, presented on his behalf by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Mrs. Rosemary Ngozi Okoh, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the students and their parents/guardians for scaling through the hurdles of University admissions and for their provision of moral and financial supports respectively.

Although many of them applied for admission, he said few of them were admitted and consequently called them the ‘lucky ones’.

He admonished them to justify their admission by working very hard to succeed in their studies and graduate in record time.

The Vice Chancellor also advised the students to eschew negative habits and vices that could be inimical to their successful stay in the University.

He listed cultism, Indecent dressing, Impersonation, examination malpractice, rape and others as acts detested by the University and punishable once established by suspension or outright rustication of the student.

When faced with academic or social problems, the Vice Chancellor told the students to visit the Students Counselling Centre for professional help.

The highlight of the ceremony was the administering of Matriculation Oath on the 692 students by the Registrar of the University, Mrs. R. U. Ufiofio, represented by Mr. S. O. Onaibre, Deputy Registrar (Council Secretariat).

The Provost of the College, Dr. Dickson O. Oyovwi, who witnessed the Oath-Taking ceremony, congratulated the students and wished them well in their academic journey.

Miss Evidence Ukoko, a 100 level English/Education student, on behalf of the Matriculants, thanked the Vice Chancellor for admitting them into the University.

She appreciated everyone who contributed to their successful admission and promised they would not violate their Matriculation Oath.
