Sheyi Money Foundation Rewards Excellence With Cash Prizes At DELSU Convocation

The Sheyi Money Foundation has rewarded academic excellence with significant cash prizes at the Delta State University, as part of activities marking the institution’s 18th Convocation Ceremony.

Oasis Magazine gathered that the awards, presented on May 2, 2026, came with financial incentives aimed at encouraging outstanding performance and strengthening academic development within the university.

The Best Graduating Student in the Department of Geology, Aneni Joseph Junior, received a cash prize of ₦1 million for his exceptional academic performance, discipline, and overall excellence.

The Second Best Graduating Student, Uweh Onyeka Divine, was awarded ₦700,000, while Albert Promise Osaruwense, who emerged as the Third Best Graduating Student, received ₦500,000.

In addition to individual honours, the Department of Geology was recognised as a Center of Academic Excellence and received a ₦500,000 grant to support its academic activities.

The Geology Alumni Association of DELSU (GAAD) was also presented with the Strategic Education Support Partnership Award, alongside a ₦500,000 cash prize in recognition of its sustained contributions to alumni engagement and academic development.

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Samuel Asagba, was honoured with the Grand Patron of Academic Excellence Award, which also came with a ₦500,000 cash reward for exemplary leadership and commitment to advancing education.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine, Kagbare JW-Borke, Executive Director, SMF, said that the gesture was a deliberate effort to restore dignity to academic excellence and send a clear message that hard work, discipline, and outstanding performance will always be recognized and rewarded.

He noted that the Foundation is not just celebrating top students, but intentionally building a culture where excellence becomes attractive, visible, and worth striving for.

According to him, the initiative is also designed to strengthen institutions, inspire younger students, and create a ripple effect where beneficiaries grow into future leaders who will, in turn, give back to society.

The initiative underscores the Sheyi Money Foundation’s dedication to promoting scholarship, rewarding hard work, and fostering partnerships that contribute to the growth of tertiary education in Nigeria.
